Sleeping Forest is (by its citizens) an infamous location generally on the outskirts of Newark City near Elysian Heights. It is mentioned in End of Days and seen in the distance briefly in Code Genesis. The forest is thick and generally casts an eerie sight at night due to the fog brought on by the coast. It is located close to the home of Rose Bedford and she claims to have walked through the forest many times, saying that it does in fact have a very eerie and almost unnatural feel to it.

History[]

Milford and the group with him bought the property from the Indians by exchanging goods and currency with them. The total control of the community by the Church continued until 1667 when Joseph Milford launched an attack on the Indian tribes in Sleeping Forest after many colonists were supposedly attacked. His assault caused thousands of Indians to be slaughtered. The death of many granted the forest to be ably named due to the eerie silence that followed after their death.

Current Status[]

It is unlikely that the US government preformed a sweep of the forest, given the impracticality of securing miles of mountainous terrain after the event of the infection and destruction. Even bombing the forest itself would be of little use, given infected creatures like the Cerberus, crows or the bats could have traveled beyond the city itself in the months that eventually led up to the Newark City infection. Thus, current status of the forest is currently unknown.

Locations[]

  • Fort Beldam
  • Mikes Apple Orchard

Trivia[]

  • Sleeping Forest in Code Genesis shares the same name as in Final Fantasy 7.
  • Sleeping Forest is partially inspired by the believed haunted forest of Black Hills that inspired the Blair Witch Legend.
  • There have been claims by the residents of the city that the forest is haunted by the spirits of the slaughtered Indians. With the infection setting in and the release of the creatures, some of the residents may have avoided the forest for fear of it.
