RESEARCH LOG: APRIL 13th, 2009
(The video starts up and the camera is zooming itself in on a large, infected moth feeding from the remains of meat-like scraps and blood that look suspiciously human in origin).
Miles: "So beautiful you are. My beautiful babies..." (A pause) "I can understand how you feel you know; locked away in such a small, terrible prison. You feel cut off from the world around you. But don't worry. You will be free one day. When you're strong enough..."
(The camera suddenly turns sharply and focuses on Austin Gregory stepping into the lab.)
Austin: "I thought I told you that we needed those reports!"
Miles: (Frustrated and rather petulant) "I'm working on them..."
(The camera is then placed onto a desk and it now focuses on the two men; Austin stands a little shorter than Miles and Miles appears to be wearing a tattered jacket. His hair is long and messy and he appears to be unshaven).
Austin: "Alex requested them two hours ago! What the hell are you doing in here anyway?" (He scoffs and looks over to the cages where the moths are hiding, obviously knowing the answer.) "Are you fawning over those things again, huh?"
Miles: "Shut your mouth, Gregory! You know how important my research is to me and to Alex!"
Austin: "Then if they are so important to you, get to work on the damn papers! I don't want to have to come back down here a second time!"
Miles: (Threatening) "I don't want you to have to come back down here a second time!"
(Austin laughs sardonically)
Austin: "Get your damn head out of your ass for two seconds and listen to yourself! You're going nuts over these goddamn oversized butterflies! I'm pretty sure you haven't showered in days and even shaved! Have you eaten today?"
Miles: (With icy venom) "Get out! Get the hell out of my lab!"
(He then starts pushing Austin violently toward the door and though they are unseen, but their voices can still be heard).
Austin: "Hey! Stop pushing me!"
Miles: "Stay away from them! They're mine!"
Austin: (Stunned) "You're out of your mind, you know that!"
Miles: "GET OUT!!"
(After the door roars shut, Miles stalks across the path of the camera and picks it up, bringing it close to his face with a wide - eyed mad look.)
Miles: "They don't understand, do they? No. They cannot see how wonderful these creatures are!" (He grins now) "Well, they'll see! They'll ALL see just how powerful they can really be!"
(There is a sharp whistling sound and the camera cuts off).
